The Old Scholar's Historical Thoughts

Well, the hard drive on my iMac is nowhere to be found. I tried to turn on the machine and I get a lovely flashing question mark. I put in my OS disk and run disk utility and there is no disk. Wonderful. My backup will come in handy when I find that elusive disk. If anyone has seen a lost harddrive please send it to my place. I’m sure it’s lonely.

  1. I would make some smart-a$$ comment about Macs, but my WINTEL motherboard apparently blew a capacitor yesterday and caught on fire.

I was able to salvage the HDs.

If you need a SATA or IDE 2.5 or 3.5 enclosure (USB) to run some diagnostics, email me and I will bring a spare to class. I have some spare drives too if I can help.

  2. Yeah, I have had one MAC for two years. This is the second time I have lost everything, due to hardware malfunction. (Luckily I’m obsessive and have backups of my backups) It is true that I do not get the blue screen of death – but I get the multicolor spinning wheel of infinity much more than I ever got of the blue screen of death.

I just turned the machine back on and my disk is now back. I hope it had fun out and about. Unfortunately, it cannot be repaired. Therefore, I reformatted it and am attempting a restore of the backup. I’ll let you know my success.

  3. Maybe there’s a nasty virus going around in class…my video card crapped out this week.

  4. No joy in Mudville – disk went out for another excursion and left no forwarding address. I guess it’s replacement time. For the second time I am glad I listened to everyone and bought AppleCare – Last time they replaced my bus controller, this time it will be a hard drive.
